Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Deploys License Plate Recognition Cameras to Better Protect Our Community and Solve Crimes
Lincoln County, Mo. – The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce the deployment of 12 new License Plate Recognition (LPR) cameras throughout the county. This initiative, made possible by grant funding, aims to prevent crime and assist in the identification of suspects involved in criminal activities.
The deployment of these LPR cameras has already begun and is expected to be completed by the end of the month. The cameras will be strategically placed at key access points and major roadways within Lincoln County. These cameras are a valuable investigative tool to aid law enforcement in the swift resolution of serious crimes. By capturing and processing license plate data, the LPR system can quickly identify stolen vehicles, track suspects, and provide critical leads in ongoing investigations.
Sheriff Rick Harrell emphasized the significance of this deployment: “The introduction of LPR cameras in Lincoln County represents a significant advancement in our ability to prevent and solve crimes. These cameras will serve as a powerful tool in our investigative arsenal, helping us to quickly identify and apprehend individuals involved in criminal activities.”
The LPR cameras will not be used for traffic enforcement or to issue citations for minor infractions. Their primary purpose is to support high-profile investigations and ensure public safety by aiding in the detection of criminal activities such as vehicle theft, burglaries, and other serious offenses.
The Sheriff’s Office assures the community that the data collected by the LPR cameras will be handled with the utmost care and in accordance with privacy laws. Information will be securely stored and accessed only by authorized personnel for legitimate investigative purposes.
This deployment aligns Lincoln County with neighboring counties, such as St. Charles County, which have successfully implemented similar LPR programs. The integration of LPR data across county lines enhances regional cooperation and improves the efficiency of cross-jurisdictional investigations.
“As the fastest growing community in Missouri, it’s crucial that we protect Lincoln County from some of the negative impacts of this growth. We are committed to leveraging technology to create a safer environment for our residents. The LPR system will play a key role in maintaining our safety and security,” said Sheriff Rick Harrell.
