Suspect arrested in Elsberry Shooting

Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office arrests suspect for the shooting of a person at a party in Elsberry, Missouri.

On July 20th, 2022, at 1:37 AM Lincoln County deputies responded to a report of a shooting at 269 Goodwood Farms Drive. Upon arriving they found a 17-year-old victim with an apparent gunshot wound to the back of his head.  Deputies rendered emergency aid and the victim was flown to St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Investigative interviews conducted on scene identified the suspect as 19-year-old Christopher Allen Smith.  Smith was staying with a family member in the city of St. Peters.  St. Peters police located the suspect’s vehicle at a residence, and LCSO and SPPD were able to take Smith into custody without incident.

Detectives recovered the firearm believed to be used in the shooting.  While being interviewed, Smith admitted to the shooting incident.

The victim is currently stable with a positive prognosis.

Smith is being held at the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Jail with a $250,000 cash only bond.
